A Week in Wrighstville Beach

A Week in Wrighstville Beach

It’s been a relaxing week in Wrightsville Beach; a nice change of pace from the non-stop work/projects of the last six weeks. Although we are still working on minor projects, our new focus is on weather (our first question when we meet fellow cruisers: where do you get your weather?), navigation, logistics, and anchorages (i.e., where is the best place to drop anchor in Wrightsville Beach?).

Stephane studying our PAPER charts (thank you Dale & Merna!). You can have fifty chart plotters but you still need PAPER charts!!!

Wrightsville Beach has a beautiful, long, white, sandy beach.

Bangs! Stephane’s getting really good at cutting my hair!

Stephane found a sweet little swimming spot just across the way from our anchorage. At low tide the water comes up only to our knees!

I got some exercise in trying to row the dinghy around.

We checked out the local history museum. Apparently Wrightsville Beach was THE SPOT back in the day (30s, 40s). There was a big building on the beach (Lumina) where everyone went to dance the night away. Later it was a roller skating rink, a theater, and finally, it was torn down (in the 70s).

Look! Another FREE LIBRARY! I saw the first one in Oriental. These are so cool! A mini bird-house-type structure with books – you take one, you leave one. Must be a North Carolina thing. Super cool!

Should we go grab a beer? Oh wait, it’s not even noon yet…

He’s a fish!

Some big wind came through yesterday and last night – gusts up to 30+ knots. We were rocking and rolling in Free Range. Today it is cold and still pretty windy. Weather is looking good for a Monday (tomorrow) departure to our next destination: Charleston, SC.

      Hi S&S,
It may be close to a miracle, but I finally looked up your blog! I am impressed with your adventurous spirits and the tremendous drive to overcome every obstacle and still have fun in the process. It makes me tired just thinking about it!
I am proud of you both and will be checking in on your blog again soon.
      Best wishes, Les & Rebecca

PS – if the emurgunsy kumunicashun system still isn’t working just make out an IT ticket and get it overhauled at the next port of call.

Making me sick, just reading about the wind rocking and rolling you around like that! You both look so, so happy! Super stoked that Stephane is able to keep your fabulous hair maintained. Tell him I LOVE that smile! He’s in Heaven there, isn’t he? You too, I can tell! Miss you both!
