We’ve been poking around the US Virgin Islands, killing time, waiting for Dan to come (he arrives later this month). We are REALLY excited for my brother’s visit and are exploring different spots we’ll take him when he comes.
So far on the list we have:
Mayo Bay, St. John
Jost Van Dyke (Soggy Dollar Bar, Foxy’s)
The Indians (snorkeling)
Virgin Gorda – The Baths
If anyone can recommend any other spots around the USVIs or BVIs please post here!!!!!!!!
We are definitely taking Dan here – this is Maho Bay on St. John. The water is almost as amazing as in the Bahamas and there are nearby coral reefs to snorkel and explore. Plus there is some challenging terrain for running (hills and TRAILS!!!).One groovy little beer barge. This little floating bar was at our Maho Bay anchorage for several nights. We dinghied over to it one night and enjoyed a few brews.
While anchored in Maho Bay, we met up with Steve’s friends, Henry and Larissa. They took us out on the town in Cruz Bay. We ended up at a local bar where Kenny Chesney was hanging out. Apparently he digs St. John.
Enjoying a very rare stretch of downwind sailing. See, the Trade Winds pretty much always blow from the east. So, basically, since we left the Bahamas, we’ve been sailing straight into the wind / waves. This makes for an uncomfortable ride. On this particular sail, we were heading west along the south side of St. John. Sooooooo nice, quiet, and calm. And we were MOVING!On the way from St. John to St. Thomas, Steve’s forward stay broke! Here he is climbing the mast to assess the damage.Only 866 miles to Cuba? Let’s roll!!Free Range chickens! They ate french fries out of our hands. We’ve reunited with our friend and buddy boater, Mark (s/v Osprey). So it’s the four amigos again! Stéphane set up this artsy shot on the beach. And here we are at Magens Bay, St. Thomas. A very nice, calm anchorage. While here we’ll work on a few small boat projects, start spiffing Free Range up (clean the stainless, scrub her up nice). We’ll be heading over to St. Croix later this week to show her to a potential buyer…

Okay, you guys almost got us into trouble! There’s a tall ship in the harbor here called MYSTIC. And I thought, “maybe Aunt Shelley means MYSTIC”. Except THEN I thought, “Mick, huh?”. We were going to go over to Mystic and ask if a Mick worked on the ship. Then I googled MICK and MUSTIQUE and now I know! Had to clue he had an amazing home on that island!!!
